A New Bike…for Me!

On Saturday, we went into town and I finally bought a bike. With the kids on training wheels and just learning, I haven’t had the need for one. Now that the kids are doing so well on their two wheelers, I can join them. It’s one of those images I had in my mind since the kids were babies. That one day we’d go bike riding as a family. I’ve never even been a big bike rider! It sounds kinda silly, but I guess it’s just one of those ideal family fantasies. Some people imagine white picket fences.

When we went to the bike shop we decided to take Dd’s bike along because it looked to us like it was too small for her. So, she got a new bike too! She was apprehensive about losing her pretty pink bike with the matching streamers and basket, but now she can keep up with her brother while riding so that makes up for it. She even got some new streamers. When I told her that mommy was going to get a bike so that I could go with them, she was quite concerned (with her old bike) that she’d be left behind. I told her that, of course, I would stay behind with her. Then she was so excited the night we brought her new bike home and she felt how much faster she could go. The next morning she told me she had a dream that her and I were biking up in front of Daddy and her brother. It was soo sweet.

Sunday was so gorgeous that the four of us went out together. We had a wonderful time. Except. My butt hurt!! And still did a couple of days afterward. Ah well. There was a point, while were riding, that Dd and I were in the front of the boys, and she said to me, “Mommy! This is just like my dream!” I didn’t tell her, but it was just like mine, too.
