Here’s a question to which a 34 year old mom of two children SHOULD know the answer…
How do you keep your white clothing stay a nice bright white? All of mine are a dull listless white. They look white to me until I hold them up to a brand new white item. A little while ago my friend gave me a bagful of clothes from her closet. Her whites were all a really bright white.
Hmmm. I guess I should ask her.
Any suggestions from you all would be helpful, too, though!
And G? What’s your secret?
I boil my whites as well as placing a packet of the ‘glo-white’ and must admit – they come out really white….
The only sad thing is when it comes to ironing – alas my pipe ash often leaves it status symbol too π¦
I just don’t buy white stuff. π
Peter – You BOIL your whites? In what? A cauldron? And you call Dawn a witch?? π
Janet – Yeah – that’s probably the smarter way to go!
It was ‘Dawn’ – who suggested it π
It just goes to show …… π―
They come out even ‘whiter’ – when one hangs them on the washing line π
Okay boiling is way too much trouble, as is hanging them on a line, ‘specially when it’s cold out.
I need a magic answer. I’ll check back.
Debbie, I laughed so hard when I read your comment. Thanks for the support. Don’t be fooled, I did not suggest the boiling of whites in a cauldron, however, my aunt used to boil the diapers to sanitize and make them white. I think Mr. Domestic Pants might have the whitest whites in his neighbourhood.
Hanging on the line does help, and I do wash and rinse in hot water. I also use Oxiclean in the wash and Avon bubble bath. I must say, my whites are much better now that I have my front load washer. They are not as white as I would like, so I may have to take the advice from the domestic diva above, and start boiling the whites.
I have no idea. Fortunately, I have Dawn who washes my clothes. Therefore, I have clean clothes and don’t have to worry about my whites.
1/4 cup lemon juice in the wash, warm water. Hanging in the sun is best but tumble dry otherwise. If there are stains, use salt and lemon juice on the stain. Works everytime π
π Trust me it works every time – boiling and they come out even whiter than Dawn’s teeth π
I am the envy of the neighbourhood – even the sheep cannot compete..
Robinella – Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who needs the answer!
Dawn – “Mr.Domestic Pants” Now THAT’s funny!
Never heard of using Avon bubble bath – sounds interesting.
Sirdar – Yes. How conveeeeeenient. π
Joy – Now I like this suggestion simply because I have lemon juice – I don’t have to go out and buy something new. I have a load of whites to go in right now so I’m going to give it a try. Thanks!
Peter – Of course, everyone (even the sheep) probably needs sun glasses to look at you!
One’s ‘Unique’ status – even has Dawn – bowing to the Master π
Me? my whites??? I think my Donna and sister in law in MB have the whitest whites!
Thanks for the compliment:)
G
This is how I do my whites and I got it from my Grams. I soak the load of whites for a few hours or overnight with my usually laundry detergent. I run the whole cycle. Then I run it again with Hot water/ laundry det and throw in a cup of bleach. My whites are usually pretty white. Very easy.
Now if you happen to have 2 boys that will go outside in their white socks and insanely stain everything white they wear…. then you need to soak everything in hotwater, detergent, bleach overnight. Run cycle. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. OR just go out and buy some new sock. π
